Values Assessment & Alignment

We all have attributes that we value. Living in alignment with what we value brings joy and satisfaction while not doing so causes friction and can prevent us from reaching goals. Knowing what is most important will help in finding any source of dissatisfaction in life areas such as career or navigating major transitions such as retirement.

Read more about the importance of values on my blog, the Self-Help Stop.com.

Take the assessment to find out and then find out more about aligning your values below.

Values Assessment

The following is a simple method to appraise and identify your top values. Download a writable (or printable) PDF here.

  1. Circle or list all the values that matter to you.
  2. Identify your top 10.
  3. Narrow the list to your top 5.
Values Alignment

Look at your life and see how well your top values are reflected in various areas such as relationships, careers, how you spend your “free” time. If you are not living according to what matters most to you, what changes can you make to refine alignment?

Remember to start small. Break down changes to the smallest steps possible. Once you’ve determined things you can do every day to bring your more joy and contentment, ask yourself what might get in the way of working toward alignment. Make a plan for dealing with any obstacles that arise. Then, put your plan into action. It may be very helpful to get support from a friend, coach, or therapist.
